Mulga Valley Magpies vs Port Belalie Bays |

Over 1500 spectators witnessed the newly named Port Belalie Bays suffer a defeat
to expansion side Mulga Valley Magpies. When interviewed, Bays captain Paul "Bear"
Couzner commented that it was disappointing to go down on the big day, but
he wasn't sure how it ranked against leading the team on to the field in the guernsey
made famous by his beloved Glenelg Tigers. Led by Brett Honan and Brad Peacock in the middle, the Magpies skipped to an early lead, before Couzner's Bays came steaming back. Pete O'Dea, Damian Clarke and Tim Hall helped set up goals to star forwards Kevin "Plugger" Paynter and Hamana Hebberman. With the Bays still a chance at three quarter time, the Magpies put the foot down, peppering the goalfront whilst keeping the ball as far from the Bays forward line as possible. For the Bays Andrew Bastian provided a highlight with a spectacular mark on the wing, some commenting that it was reminiscent of Peter Carey. But the highlight of the match was the mark of the year to the Magpies Rohan Voumard, who sailed above the pack to hold on to a screamer of a mark. |
