Port Belalie Magpies vs Central Forrest Bulldogs |

Backyard Football League Australia's first ever match featured the Port Belalie Magpies,
taking on the Central Forrest Bulldog's at Jamestown's Victoria Park. Paul "Bear" Couzner was appointed as the Magpies first ever captain, with local netball identity Ros Oates assuming coaching duties. For the Bulldogs Garry "Gaz" Larcombe led the team, with Anna Peacock named as coach. Kicking with a slight breeze, the Bulldogs raced to an early lead, with Ruck duo Dale Oates and David Moore dominating the centre. Callum Moore and Brendan Ryan were proving to be a handful up forward. However the Magpies fought back, with Josh Bottrall and Paul Hocking working their way in to the match. Hamana Hebberman was starting to shut down Ryan at Full Back and the game was anyone's. Two goals to Simon "Choompy" Hockey in the last quarter had the Dogs sensing victory, but Reinhold Wehrmann, Anthony Alcock and Steve Caulfield all landed majors to help the Magpies take out the match. |
