Mundunnie Hill Dunnies vs Washpool Warriors |

Backyard Footy's feature match at Booborowie, was the fixture between neighbouring
rivals the blood and tars, the Mundunnie Hill Dunnies and the double blue Washpool
Warriors. The Dunnies had some extra incentive, not only did they have the
grand final loss from July in thier minds, but Troy Morgan and Reece Jones had
defected from the Dunnies to join the inaugural Warriors team. With the first bounce, the Dunnies flew out of the box, hitting the twin targets of Booga Price and Matt Semler inside 50 creating an early lead. Not to be outdone the Warriors fought back, with skipper Reinhold Wehrmann, David Moore and Leigh Scott featuring in some solid play to hit the front at the major change. With the game on the line, the Dunnies wasted opportunites up forward, despite Ben Sommerville and Albert Dolphin dominating the midfield. Costly turnovers gave the Warriors a sniff of victory, which they did not waste, converting with two late majors to hit the front in the final minute and eventually hold out for a hard fought victory. Dunnies captain Ian Dolphin said it was disappointing to come so close and fall over at the last hurdle. |
Washpool Warriors 10-5 (65) d Mundunnie Hill Dunnies 9-6
